SLOW DOWN

Gallery 234, Laramie, WY

May 2016

"SLOW DOWN" is a  body of work that highlights the objects that litter our everyday lives; they are familiar and inescapable. The subjects of the work are so common they become nearly invisible. Their inherent and unplanned formal features go unnoticed, often grouped together with their mass produced look-alikes. Individually examined however, each of these subjects holds their own personal history, both authentic or fictionalized.

By recontextualizing these subjects, a new format is created for the viewer to appreciate what he or she once overlooked. The purpose being, to make a conscious effort to slow down… notice the charming and peculiar occurrences of art and beauty in uncommon places. To take pleasure in the unique qualities of say: a graffiti sprawled back-alley dumpster, an empty motel pool, or the hilarity and repetition of plumbing logos, is the work’s basic initiative.
